The creative process, Luis Royo's inspiration

Do you know Luis Royo? A Spanish artist renowned for his science fiction and fantasy illustrations, often featuring erotic and dystopian themes. Born in 1954, he has won international acclaim for his captivating, detailed work, which has appeared in books, magazine covers, calendars and trading cards. His famous series include "Malefic" and "Women". Royo is renowned for his ability to create dark and sensual imaginary worlds, and he has naturally become one of my sources of inspiration. I particularly like his depiction of women as warriors, powerful and, more often than not, in control of their male counterparts.

In Royo's series, I was inspired by the warrior series, and by monsters too.

Here are a few examples from among the many themes inspired by this artist.

I tried out a number of retouching techniques to achieve the spirit of Royo's work. For the monsters, I even experimented with 3D, which was quite difficult but very satisfying.
